Harrison Labs Universal MIDI Organ Stop Converter

The Harrison Labs Universal MIDI Organ Stop (Voices) Converter is a versatile solution designed to integrate most analog and digital organs—including specific models like Allen, Rodgers, and Alhborn Galanti—into modern MIDI systems. This unit is uniquely equipped to convert standard organ stop keying into precise MIDI signals, enabling seamless operation with popular software including Hauptwerk, GrandOrgue, Allen Ensemble, GigaStudio, and most MIDI samplers.

Key Technical Specifications & Features:

  • Universal Input Compatibility: The converter provides a direct, no-soldering interface (the MOS stopboard array interface) designed to capture keying from 32 distinct array stops from a standard MOS I stop board.
  • Flexible Jumper Configuration: The device features integrated version-selection jumpers that allow for immediate configuration. These jumpers optimize MIDI output for specific hardware and software, ensuring that proper MIDI messages are sent. Example configurations include:
    • Hauptwerk Integration: Outputting MIDI note on/off messages on channels 8 through 15 for stops, or configuring signals to control Hauptwerk couplers and tremulants at default values.
    • Program Change Integration: Essential for software that requires program change messages typically triggered by momentary piston operations, such as GigaStudio.
    • Module Compatibility: Specific settings for the Alhborn Galanti Archive Modules (including the Classic, Romantic, and 201 series) and the Silberman Chip set in the 201.
  • Software-Defined Alhborn Galanti Settings: For Ahlborn Galanti Archive modules, this unit comes pre-configured with default MIDI channels built directly into the converter’s software, simplifying setup for these specific systems.
  • Power Requirements: The converter operates on standard 5V power, widely available on most organ consoles. Alternatively, it can be powered by any regulated wall adapter rated for 5 VDC at 100 MA or greater.
  • Electrical Efficiency: The actual current draw is exceptionally low, requiring less than 50 MA even with all inputs and the MIDI output active.
  • User-Selectable Signal Logic: The converter accommodates different signal logic requirements. Users can specify whether the inputs need to be set to "active HI" or "active LO" (using 5V signal levels).
    • Example Case: Stock Allen MOS organs require an "active HI" configuration (utilizing 0V to -5V signaling).
    • Console Adaptability: For "gutted consoles," the unit provides complete flexibility, allowing a seamless change to almost any configuration without required programming.
