Harrison Labs MIDI Converters
Compatibility and Functionality
Harrison Labs MIDI converters are fully compatible with Hauptwerk, GrandOrgue, and all sound generators that utilize standard MIDI messages. Specifically developed for Allen MOS 1 systems—including any number of computers, MDC, and MOS 2 single-computer organ systems—this unit transmits MIDI note on/off data and master volume messages via expression pedal inputs.
Key Technical Details:
• Purpose: This unit is designed exclusively for sending keying MIDI code. It does not allow a MIDI sequencer to play the organ.
• System Integration: The unit supports the Allen organ transposer knob and functional couplers.
• Stops Conversion: Please note that the stops converter is a separate item. Converting organ stops requires the Stops MIDI Converter, shown below.
Features and Specifications
- Customizable Settings: Includes jumper sets for division selection and MIDI channel selection (Channels 1-8).
- Expression Inputs: Features an analog expression pedal input for users who prefer not to use existing Allen channels.
- Expandability: Includes MIDI expander jumper terminals compatible with our MIDI Expander.
This allows connection to four MIDI sound generators per division (up to eight if daisy-chained once).
Note: To prevent signal degradation caused by optoisolators in your MIDI inputs, do not daisy-chain more than once.
Installation and Wiring
The converter attaches directly to the keyboard array using the provided hardware.
- DIY Installation: Includes a color-coded 20-conductor ribbon cable with an attached connector. Buyers must cut and strip the opposite end. If you are comfortable with basic soldering and following technical instructions, you can complete the wiring yourself.
- Professional Factory Service: For a fee of $99, we will install the converter onto your keyboard array PCB and test the board. Simply unplug your array board and mail it to us (minimum $100 insurance recommended). We can also repair defective MOS array boards for a modest additional charge
